4Good upgrade
By Josh
It didn't have a lot of those unwanted software addons (outside of Mcafee) you get with computers these days (I'm looking at you HP). I had an old home custom that was adequate until the power supply died. Since my computer is about 6 years old I figured anything on the market would torch it. I am not disappointed, I went with acer because I bought a netbook 6 months ago that was great for the money. Setup was easy, I installed my 2 TB backup drive into it with no problems it read just fine without formatting or partitioning (whew!).

No disks, no manuals, no information on motherboards, et cetera. But I guess that's normal

5An excellent computer.
By M. Henry
Thus far I have been very pleased with my choice of the Acer AM3970-UR10P computer. I bought it after purchasing a HP computer that I discovered had only 6 USB ports. This Acer has a total of 12 and two of them are USB 3.0. The computer has an Intel i3 Sandy Bridge chip and is completely adequate for my needs since I am not a "gamer". Basically, I do a lot of video and digital images. It will play full HD .mov files without hesitation and is plenty fast enough for my needs. Admittedly, Windows 7 is not as nice an operating system as Windows XP, but I can live with it. (The file management in Windows Explorer is vastly inferior to that of Windows XP.)

4Good system for my needs.
By D. Gregory
Before I begin, let me say, I am happy with this computer. Most of what I like about it can be derived by the specs. What I will write here may be seen as negative, but I am just pointing out a couple of issues that can't be derived by looking at the specs.

I received the system, and had it up and running quickly. I then created recovery disks, and that process went smoothly as well.

I then went through some upgrades including maxing the memory to 16GB, adding a Verbatim SSD and upgrading to Windows 8. All went pretty smoothly. To install Windows 8, I used the recovery disks to load up the SSD with Windows 7, and installed the $14.95 Windows 8 Pro upgrade from Microsoft.

I then went on to install my tv tuner, and that is where one of the shortcomings came up. I actually bent the case trying to open up a port for the expansion card. I could bend it back by hand (pretty much anyway) so the case near the expansion slots is WAY too easy to bend. Why have expansion slots if using them bends the case?

I have also been unable to (so far) add a Blu-Ray drive because I can't figure out how to remove the front bezel without potentially breaking it, or completely disassembling the computer... I will continue to look into this, but I haven't found a good resolution yet.

Another issue, which is common with desktop computers... Whose idea was it to make power and drive lights bright enough to read by? I would love to be able to tone down the power light and drive light, as they are pretty distracting. The drive light when I am watching videos, and the power light flashing when in sleep mode. When I am outside of my house and the lights are off inside, I can tell that there is a computer in sleep mode by the telltale blue flashing glow from the computer's power LED. I am looking for a way to unplug these obnoxious special effects devices.

One minor issue I am concerned with long term is that the "front" USB ports are actually on top of the system. This is very convenient for plugging and unplugging components that are needed for a period of time, but it seems like they may collect dust in them over time, possibly leading to issues with getting a good USB connection in the future.

However, with all of that said, I am very happy with the performance of the system, and look forward to years of satisfactory usage, but the case keeps me from giving this 5 stars.

One piece of advice, possibly in Windows 7, but definitely in Windows 8... Loading the latest video drivers from Intel raises the Windows Experience score for the display. You should definitely upgrade the drivers.
